Digital and Print Designer
Hi, I’m Rob Last, a multi-disciplined freelance graphic designer. I have a rare combination of creative, design and technical experience amassed over twenty years of working for a rich assortment of agencies, organisations and independently. These opportunities have helped me mould a versatile and varied portfolio.
I have a diversity of skills sets to offer both B2B and B2C clients. Skills tend to overlap on many projects. Whether it’s a branding project that involves stationery design or a complete rebranding (web and print).
My versatility across these key design disciplines allows me to be a very effective operator for all kinds of businesses.
As a hybrid graphic designer, I create designs for print and digital spaces. I constantly examine the principles of design, typography, colour, images and the dynamic relationship that exists between all these elements.
Great design is usable, intuitive, draws awareness to a product and blends seamlessly into your business and marketing purposes (form and function).
I create multi-functional digital assets available to operate in online and offline (print-based) environments.
Simplicity is my ultimate intention. This noble ambition takes time, effort and a good understanding of the subject.
I have crafted my trade within several well-established: Design, Advertising, Direct Marketing, Sporting organisations and Publishing agencies. I’ve had the pleasure of working for some global brands and events.
Recently my work has shifted from print design to digital design, as the borders between the two disciplines blur and more clients have shifted their focus in this direction.
I know what’s required to deliver high-quality commercial artwork for print and the intricacies of web publishing. Knowledge of these limitations is necessary for delivering projects that exceed expectations.
The experience to bring concepts to life. Delivering these designs as; print-ready artwork or as digital assets. Leveraging applications to create a finished project.
Upholding creative quality, technical standards and promoting overall excellence. Producing accurate artwork, preparing digital files to comply with international production standards. Checking proofs to ensure quality and colour accuracy.
Extensive project management. Effectively prioritising the workflow. Taking the initiative to manage allocated projects to meet deadlines and budgets; pro-actively working together with multiple stakeholders for a successful outcome. Maintaining positive morale within the studio.
Understanding and effectively communicating the needs and any complexities of the project in simple terms to all involved.
Ensuring consistency and technical accuracy and maintaining thorough, organised files within predefined naming conventions and guidelines
Checking artwork completed by other studio employees and offering guidance where required. Ensuring all artwork is checked thoroughly and despatched correctly and on time. Signing off artwork and ensuring quality up the production chain.
Completing timesheets accurately. Safeguarding the profitability of the studio by staying within production and creative development budgets and delivering production efficiencies.
Creatively driven with excellent typographic, layout and retouching skills in addition to technical accuracy and speed. If a project requires a new approach with a new software solution, I will research and update my skill set to make it possible. Assessing files to be adapted into different formats/sizes/languages.
Preparation of presentation materials
Including mock-ups, collating and binding, mounting, digital photography and hand-finishing where required.
Effective problem solver, team player with a can-do attitude.
I have amassed a variety of skills over the years and enjoy these being put to the test. My software skills range from mastery of the Adobe CS suite to the incredible diversity (of what I term) support apps, which I use in the various phases of supporting a project.
As software is being continually updated, I make sure that my skills continuously improve to meet these changes.
Teamwork is another crucial skill, taking all the independent stakeholders on a project and blending them to create a team.
